Airport coach
Best for most travelers. You avoid winter driving, luggage transfers and navigating a new rail system with ski bags. Reserve early for peak weeks.
After the long flight
Landing at Sapporo is not the end of the journey.
New Chitose Airport is still 90 minutes to three hours from the main ski resorts. This is the transfer planning I would do before buying the flight.
Resort transfers
How long it really takes.
These are sensible winter ranges, not guarantees. Heavy snow can add time.

Bus, train or car?
My default answer is the airport coach.
Train
Best for Sapporo and Tomamu. For Niseko, Rusutsu, Kiroro and Furano, the train usually adds a change or a final road transfer.
Rental car
Useful for combining resorts or exploring towns, but only for confident winter drivers. I wouldn’t learn snow driving after an overnight Pacific flight.
The transfer mistakes I would avoid
Don’t book a coach that requires a perfect arrival
Immigration, baggage and ski equipment can take time. A slightly later coach is cheaper than missing the last one and paying for an emergency private transfer.
Check the hotel stop, not just the resort name
Niseko alone has several base areas. A coach to Hirafu is not necessarily convenient for Annupuri, Hanazono or Niseko Village.
Late arrival? Sleep first.
For a late flight, I would seriously consider a night near New Chitose or in Sapporo and transfer in daylight the next morning.
Keep the final night practical
An early flight home may justify returning to Sapporo or Chitose the night before, especially when the nonstop only operates three times a week.
Choose the hotel after the transfer.
In some resorts, the wrong base area can add a shuttle to every ski day and every dinner.
